I feel I have come to the point that I am finished with my Surveying Emerging Technologies online class. As I evaluate what I have learned and accomplished from this one credit course, I can honestly say I have grown immensely in personal knowledge on the scope and amazing ever changing technologies. In one month of time, my attitude has drastically changed and I am more open and paying closer attention to technologies that I once ignored.
If I had to put a letter grade on my effort and time invested, it would be a solid A. However, my completion of various tasks required in this course, I was not as proficient. I had trouble posting comments in the correct places and was overwhelmed and confused with my blog and its whereabouts. Looking back at the course work and reading, I learned a great deal considering I am not an avid surfing, blogging internet user. In the past I mainly use the computer for grades, word processing, adobe photo-shop, email and googling for quick information. Prior to this class I had never heard of or either paid attention to the following words; web 2.0, tagging, RSS feed, Greasemonkey, delicious, social bookmarking, plugin, URL, Blogger, Wet Paint, Google Reader and aggregators.
I see the value of many of these applications in education, but some more so for different subject area and levels. As an art teacher I will take away from this experience the possible use of Flickr and Slide Share. I am already using delicious and embracing it. With my personality, life style and job, I do not think blogging is my cup of tea. I am not compelled to share personal information or ideas through the written word. I express myself much better through my artwork and demonstrating to students. I don't mind reading other people's blogs if I have the time.
Do you find this valuable?
